Workshops

Are you interested in attending a wine appreciation workshop with your friends?  Winemaker Robert E. M. Wurz, Ph.D will educate and entertain your group in the techniques of assessing wine characteristics and quality, including varietal differences and food and wine pairings.

Contact Stonefield Cellars to arrange for your workshop date and time (based on winemaker availability).  Workshop duration is 2 hours, Group minimum is 12, maximum is 24.  Cost per person is $35

Instructor Biography 

Robert E. M. Wurz, Ph.D.  – Robert is a native of Napa Valley, CA.  He started making wine when he was fourteen.  He received his doctorate in wine chemistry from the University of California, Davis.  He has taught wine making classes at Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia, at Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC, and is currently the winemaker for Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC.

You can either

1:  Assemble a group to commit to purchase a barrel’s worth of wine (22 cases minimum) – and do some blending with the winemaker and decide on the final blend that you’ll want to bottle (per bottle price starts at $12.95 and can go up depending on which wines are chosen) – this will need to be done a couple of weeks before bottling – Coordinate with us a bottling date – make it a party! (bring food or hire a caterer)
Make your own labels for the front (we will provide a back label with all the required information)
Show up on the bottle date/time, have a blast doing it, and then enjoy your wine!
A 10% non-refundable deposit is required upon the reservation of a bottling date.  Balance is due from each participant at the time of bottling.

2:  We will pick the wine and we will set the date – you just commit to purchasing at least a case and then show up to bottle and label and take your wine home with you!

Recent Wine Competition Awards

Barnhill’s in Winston-Salem recently awarded Stonefield Cellars the Mother Vine Award 2013 for Synchronicity – Best Dry Red!  Barnhill’s carries a great selection of NC Wines, with several of Stonefield Cellars’ among them.

*Important Information Regarding After Hours Appointments:   Our policy is that a credit card number will be required to secure your appointment and a $15 cancellation fee will be applied in the event of no-shows beyond an hour of the scheduled appointment.  (Please understand that we still must pay staff to open and wait even though someone doesn’t show up).

May I redeem the coupon right away? Yes – as soon as you are able to print your coupon (sent to you by Groupon, Living Social News & Record Daily Deal, or Deal Chicken) you may redeem it during our normal business hours:   Thursday – Saturday Noon – 6pm, and Sunday 1-6 pm.  Note:  Tasting and tours take at least 30-45 minutes, so please arrive closer to 5pm since we close at 6pm.

Do I need to make an appointment?   IT DEPENDS….Usually you won’t need to as long you arrive during normal business hours (see above).  However, if you are redeeming the coupon during the last two weeks prior to expiration, an appointment is recommended since we tend to be very busy during these times (We suggest that you do not wait until the last two weeks to redeem the coupon).  Also, if you are planning on coming with several friends (parties of 6 or more), we ask that you do call ahead so our staff can be prepared to best serve you.  And of course if you are coming with a large party, your tasting will take even longer, so please plan on arriving early to enable finishing by closing time.

Do I need to bring a printed copy of my coupon with me? Absolutely yes. We ask that you bring a printed coupon with you because some redemption systems require a code on the printed version that will not be available via a smart phone.

May I bring a third person with me and my friend, even though I am purchasing a deal for two? Yes, they are welcomed to join you.  They just won’t be part of the “deal”.  Our tastings are offered at $7.00 for 7 wines (non-reserve wines only) or $10 for 7 wines (including any reserves).   They will also get a souvenir glass as is customary for our tasting guests.  Any glass of wine or bottles purchased will be at our normal prices for those accompanying you outside of the “deal”.

Where are you located? We are in Stokesdale, NC, just north of Greensboro and about 10 miles north of the Piedmont International Airport.   The best map to use is the one here on our website – we suggest you click on the Location Tab and print one out….it even shows you where to park!
