Winemaking Classes

Interested in learning how wine is made?  Want to get hands on experience with most aspects of the winemaking process?  This Winemaking 101 course will teach you basic techniques in home winemaking and evaluating wine quality.

Time:                7:00-9:00 pm (same time for all dates below)

Cost:                $135

Provided:         Materials, snacks, 3 bottles of wine bottled by the class

March 26 Introduction – Kits, concentrates & starting fermentation
April 2 Principles of Winemaking – Grapes, barrels, oak alternatives, tannins
April 9 Wine evaluation: identifying flavors & food pairing
April 23 Defects: detection, causes and remedies, fining agents, additives, filtering
May 14 Blending, tasting panel, bottling preparations
May 21 Bottling, Wrap-up

Registration -  Call 336-644-9908 to register.  Deadline for registration is March 14th, 2012.

Class size is limited to 12 people (Must be at least 21 years old to participate)

Please wear:   Sturdy shoes and clothes than can get stained

Instructor Biography 

Robert E. M. Wurz, Ph.D.  – Robert is a native of Napa Valley, CA.  He started making wine when he was fourteen.  He received his doctorate in wine chemistry from the University of California, Davis.  He has taught wine making classes at Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia, at Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC, and is currently the winemaker for Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC.
