SUMMARY:Fingerstyle Guitar Workshop and Concert with Pierre Bensusan
DESCRIPTION:The Workshop and Concert is now  SOLD OUT!!!!!\nSaturday\, February 24\, 2024 –  Workshop is from 4-6pm  Concert is 7:30-9:30pm\n \nA GUITAR WORKSHOP WITH PIERRE BENSUSAN – $50 per person (excludes taxes and processing fees) \nPierre Bensusan’s workshops are open to any guitarist\, from every musical horizon\, who has already attained a competent technical level. \nLevel : intermediate\, advanced \nContent \nPierre addresses issues of musicianship\, philosophy of music\, approach to the guitar\, lots of techniques\, ear training and so forth. All together\, it’s about “Music for Guitar” in Fingerstyle\, whatever the tuning. Pierre’s classes are based on a large concept which is that\, whatever the style\, and whether you’d like to focus on interprating\, improvising or composing\, we need to fulfill the process of expressing music on the instrument. This is analysed and optimized throughout the length of the class by going deep into various right hand and left hand techniques\, body position\, posture\, exercises\, ornementations\, rythmic attention\, tone\, expression\, interpretation\, arranging\,  and so forth. \nPierre plays in DADGAD tuning but while the seminar is not about DADGAD per se\, Pierre will share his experience of this tuning. As far as students reading music or tabs\, it’s only a small part of what goes on at the workshop but would still help if you can read at least the tablature. \nhttp://www.pierrebensusan.com \nCOMMENTS FROM A STUDENT: \n“I was a little apprehensive\, thinking it might only be for “masters”\, or professional musicians. After all\, I’m just a graphic designer who loves guitar. The class attracted players on all levels. There was a really accomplished player who missed a gig at a nearby festival in order to get there\, also a very young kid who showed up with an electric guitar. And everything in between. \nAt one point Pierre had us working on finger control\, doing what should have been a very basic and simple 2 finger exercise. It was disturbing how much I was struggling with it (after all\, I thought I was a fingerpicker). Meanwhile\, the little kid next to me had it nailed! \nPierre was sensitive to each and every one of us. He treated us all as equals\, and answered all our questions. There was one-on-one interaction with all who attended. Being in a small group setting\, and hearing the thoughts of this man who has taken the artistry of fingerstyle guitar so far\, was a deep inspiration. \nEach of us\, all at our different levels\, walked away with a valuable experience. And so much to think about\, you could pick and choose what to work on. The advanced players were challenged. But in many ways\, I think those with the least experience may have had the most to gain. I wish I had an opportunity like that back when I was a teenager\, teaching myself to play. \nIf you have the opportunity to attend one of Pierre’s master classes\, drop what you’re doing\, grab your guitar – be there!!!” \nRichard Brooker\, Graphic Designer\, (Wilton\, CN) \nwww.pierrebensusan.com \n \nReferences : \n– Guitar Collection (Hal Leonard) \n– The Guitar Book (Hal Leonard) \n– Dadgad Explorer (DVD/Download – Truefire\, USA – website) \n– The Intuite PDF Collection Songbook (PDF – website) \n– The Altiplanos PDF Collection Songbook (PDF – website) \n– The Vividly PDf Collection Songbook (PDF – website) \n– The Nice Feeling Collection (PDF – website) \n– The Dadgad Café Collection (PDF – website) \n– The 4 AM Collection (PDF – website) \n– The Celtic Collection\, Vol. 1 (PDF – website) \n– The Celtic Collection\, Vol 2 (PDF – website) \n– Individual Sheet Music (PDF – website) \n– In Concert (DVD – Vestapol Videos\, USA – website) \n– PB\, Instructional #1 (DVD – Stefan Grossman Workshop\, USA – website) \n– PB\, Instructional #2 (DVD – Stefan Grossman Workshop\, USA – website) \nThis workshop is followed by a Concert by Pierre – Concert starts at 7:30 pm (non-workshop participant seating begins at 7:00pm).  Workshop attendees get a discount if also attending the concert (Concert ticket with discount will be $20 per person\, in-advance purchase\, excluding taxes and processing fees). \nDuring the hour+ break between the workshop & concert\,  workshop attendees also attending the concert may leave to eat dinner\, or join the staff & musician in ordering food for delivery. \nTickets may be purchased Online (see below)\, Over the Phone at 336-644-9908\, or In Person at the winery during Business Hours. \nNOTE: Workshop tickets must be purchased in advance as spots will fill up fast!  The concert may sell out as well\, so it is highly recommended to go for the ‘both’ option!!! \nWorkshop Only Tickets or Workshop And Concert Tickets can be purchased below.

SUMMARY:Barrel Room Concert - Haley Richardson & Don Penzien with Friends
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 4th\, 2024 –  Haley Richardson & Don Penzien with Special Guests perform an intimate Barrel Room Concert at Stonefield Cellars Winery – 7:30-9:30pm  (Door opens at 7:00pm for wine purchases and seating)\n  \nTickets are $25 (Reserved Table Seating) or $20 (General Admission Chair seating). \nIrish traditional music and dance in a listening and up-close watching room setting! \nFirst joining forces on a festival stage in 2017\, Haley and Don toured regularly together until Haley took up the mantle as core musician (fiddler) for Riverdance. Taking advantage of Haley’s brief fall hiatus from Riverdance\, the duo is once again joining forces (along with special guests\, including dancer Will Bryant and harmonica ace Steve Payne).  This will be their kick-off concert for an unforgettable series of shows across the US. \n \n Haley Richardson: With her highly ornamented and virtuosic style of playing\, Haley launched her opening salvo in the Irish music world at 6 years of age when she won the under 12 All Ireland qualifier. She has since amassed a long list of All Ireland and other championship titles (solo fiddle and slow airs) and has performed the world over. Whether performing in a solo capacity or in an ensemble\, Haley brings a rare dynamism and energy to her music\, which is informed by her thorough knowledge of the Sligo fiddle style\, her mastery of her instrument\, and the trailblazing and show-stopping technique and emotion evident in every note she plays. Currently the fiddler for the 25th Anniversary world tour of the Grammy Award winning production\, RIVERDANCE\, Haley has performed with many of the best-known Irish musicians including The Chieftains\, Altan\, Dervish\, Mick Moloney and Green Fields of America\, Pride of New York\, Liz Carroll with Cherish the Ladies\, John Whelan\, Paddy Keenan\, and The Máirtín de Cógáin Project. \nDon Penzien has long been a top-flight performer of Irish traditional music. He frequently is on the road playing concerts and festivals with Haley Richardson\, Gailfean\, Brian Conway\, Gerry O’Connor\, and The Máirtín de Cógáin Project\, and he has served as accompanist for numerous other well-known performers (e.g.\, Seán Gavin\, Randal Bays\, Máirtín de Cógáin\, John Whelan\, Tim Britton\, John Williams\, Pat Broaders\, Gabe Donohue\, Ben Jaber\, Tony DeMarco\, Billy McComiskey\, Sean Clohessy\, Bridget Fitzgerald\, Kevin Doyle). Widely recognized for his reserved backing style\, Don’s dexterous work on DADGAD-tuned guitar provides solid\, driving rhythms to traditional tunes as well as perceptive and sensitive accompaniments to songs and airs. Don is a Michigan native with strong roots in Irish culture and an affinity for Celtic music. He now resides in NC where he works as Professor at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. \n  \nSPECIAL GUESTS!!! \n \n  \nWill Bryant \nBorn in Sydney\, Australia\, Will trained with the Halloran Dance School in Irish\, ballet\, contemporary and tap from the age of four. Will performed lead roles in musical productions and made regular appearances on TV. At university he studied for a Bachelor of Music and is an accomplished guitarist. An ambitious athlete\, Will is studying personal training on and off tour. Following an impressive competitive Irish dance career\, placing top-three internationally and winning state and national titles\, he performed with Celtic Illusion and Heartbeat of Home. In 2014 he joined Riverdance and has toured worldwide. \nSteven Payne\n  \nSteve Payne has been sharing his talent on harmonica and Irish flute on stages across the USA and beyond\, adding texture and depth to the Irish traditional music scene. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nTickets may be purchased Online up till 3pm day of show (see below)\, Over the Phone at 336-644-9908\, or In Person at the winery during Business Hours. \nTickets:  Advanced Ticket purchase is highly recommended as seating in our Barrel Room is limited. \nWine and beer sold separately.
