About Us

Stonefield Cellars Winery opened the tasting room doors in March of 2006 in the small town of Stokesdale, NC.   The founders’ common love of wine and farming provided the foundation for the creation of a winery that provides a wide variety of high quality, award winning wines (dry white, dry red, semi-sweet, and sweet wine offerings) in a relaxed, rural setting close to the Piedmont Triad of Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem.   Stonefield Cellars specializes in wine-making education (taught by Ph.D. Oenologist) and Event Management (the winery is available for private party rental such as weddings, corporate meetings, birthdays, etc.), including small to large community events from Girls Night Out to a Harvest Festival in the fall, as well as year-round concerts and other music-focused events.  The beautifully landscaped gardens, patio and amphitheater, along with the indoor spaces of the winery’s Tasting Room and Barrel Room, all provide an inviting and relaxed environment in which to share the wine experience with one or many.   Stonefield Cellars has become one of the most awarded, respected, and beloved wineries in the state of North Carolina.

Robert Wurz, President and Wine Maker

Robert Wurz, a California native, began making wine at an early age of fourteen in the basement of his parents’ home near Calistoga. He followed his passion for wine through college, where he earned a Ph.D. in Wine Chemistry from University of California – Davis. His experience with North Carolina’s grapes since 1999 has resulted in excellent wines, even from challenging vintages. The acre and a half of vines on the property are maintained by Robert and his vineyard staff; they are currently growing 14 different varietals (American, European, and Hybrids). Robert also teaches wine-making classes at Stonefield Cellars Winery in the Spring and Fall for beginner and intermediate wine makers.

Natalie Wurz, Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing

Natalie Wurz, a Georgia native, has called North Carolina home since 1989. Natalie’s diverse background includes a 20 year career in Biomedical/Pharmaceutical Research and Quality Assurance followed by 10+ years as a business owner in the wine and hospitality industry.  As the co-owner, Vice-President, and Director of Sales and Marketing for Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC, Natalie manages inside and outside sales and handles onsite and offsite special events, from festival sponsorships and participation to hosting of weddings, corporate meetings, private parties, winery concerts and jam sessions.   Natalie also manages the winery staff and a large volunteer base.   Natalie’s love of music, photography and the outdoors keep her busy in her spare time – when she is not working or playing music she’s off hiking, cycling, kayaking, and fishing!

Sarah S. Smith, Operations & Wine Club Manager

Sarah has ‘grown up’ with Stonefield Cellars and has been a valuable asset in many areas of the business for the last 10+ years.  Versatile in her abilities, she graduated from UNCG with a BFA in Technical Production, then going on to bolster her skills in event and property management as a contractor for conventions and concert venues. She now works full-time managing our Wine Club, assisting in wine production and wine-making education, and coordinating our concerts, private parties, and weddings. Sarah is always ready with a smile and is happy to share her knowledge for those wanting to learn more about wine!

.Kelley Sheehy Morris, Tasting Room Manager

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, with deep-seated roots in the Boston area, Kelley primarily grew up in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C.  In this very diverse and culturally-active area, she proudly served as a paramedic for the City of Alexandria Fire Department.  After visiting a friend in Greensboro, she fell in love with North Carolina, from the coast to the mountains and everything in between.  Feeling it was the perfect place to settle down and raise a family, she made it her home in 1994.  Kelley studied biology and psychology at Guilford College while raising her two children.  With her children older now, Kelley has begun a new chapter in her life and is very excited to share her enthusiasm for Stonefield Cellars.  She looks forward to welcoming guests to the winery, learning more and sharing wine knowledge, and making new friends.  In her free time, Kelley enjoys traveling, hiking, Irish dancing, as well as sampling wine and craft beer.

We are not currently hiring, but if you are interested in winemaking / learning more about how a winery operates please join our Volunteer Email List! Throughout the year we need volunteers to help us out with vineyard work, harvesting, crushing/pressing, and bottling wine. Our volunteers are part of our ‘Will Work For Wine” Program where you help us out with a winemaking event, we feed you lunch or dinner, and you get to go home with a bottle of wine! You can join by clicking this link.
