“Eight Track” – A Songwriter Showcase Concert w/ Food Truck

By

NOTE:  TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT THE GATE ONLY (No longer available online)!!!!  Cash and Credits Cards accepted.

Stonefield Cellars will be hosting a special Songwriter Showcase and fundraising concert called “Eight Track”

Saturday, April 19th 2025 – 6:30-9:30 pm – “Eight Track” is a Songwriter Showcase Concert featuring local songwriters.

In the eight weeks leading up to the event, each of the songwriters (or songwriting teams) will be responsible for writing a new song per week and posting a demo video of themselves performing it to 8 Track’s event page on Facebook (link).  At the end of this eight week period, the songwriters will pick four of the eight songs they wrote to perform at the showcase.

Along the way, the public will be encouraged to give feedback on all of the songs, thus helping to shape the show they will see on April 19th. Furthermore, one fan-suggested prompt will be selected per week for each of the last four weeks to give the writers a little extra inspiration.

The line up for “Eight Track” includes William Nesmith, Tegan and Robert Beverly, Justin Cohen, and Tyler Millard (bios coming soon). This list of performers was curated to provide a show that promises to be both diverse in genre, but specific in intent. That is to say, each of these writers has at least a hint of a pop mentality in the way that they write, meaning that their songs are intended to be catchy and approachable. Navigate to (link coming soon) to find a playlist comprised of some of the songwriters’ previous releases.

Tickets to “Eight Track” are available below.

Note: A portion of ticket and wine sales from “Eight Track” will be donated to the Down syndrome Association of greater Winston-Salem. For more information on the DSA navigate to  (dsagwsorg).

Tyler Millard strives to write music that is as introspective as the alternative music he grew up listening to in the 90’s and as commercially appealing as the blues rock that became popular as he was learning to play guitar in the early 2000’s. And though his music can be quite serious at times,  Millard has developed a reputation for putting on shows that are upbeat and fun.

William Nesmith –  Since 2018, Nesmith has played hundreds of shows with popular covers and fun original tunes (while wearing party sunglasses).  From inspiring ballads to bubbly bops, he uses his unique vocal range to paint a spectrum of emotions.

Tegan and Robert Beverly  (Barefoot Modern)

Barefoot Modern traces its roots back to Oak Ridge, NC, where Robert and Tegan Beverly (now married) began making music together in sixth grade. Since then, they’ve evolved into a distinctive force in the indie scene, releasing two full-length albums, one EP, and a series of singles that showcase their evolving sound and artistic vision.

Justin Cohen

Justin Cohen is a singer/songwriter/producer who was born in California and has bounced back and forth from coast to coast 3 times and currently hails from North Carolina. He has had the honor of being part of records with Jelly Roll, Merkules, Bizzy Bone, from bone Thugs-n-Harmony and many more.

High Lonesome Strings Monthly Meeting (FREE Bluegrass Concert and Jam)

By

Stonefield Cellars hosts another High Lonesome Strings Bluegrass Association Monthly Meeting, featuring member band Southeast Express (see details below).

Note:  A brief period of Association/Members announcements will be held prior to the concert, followed by a jam session with band members and other local bluegrass musicians.   This is event is FREE to the public!

Event will be held INSIDE our warm and inviting Barrel Room.

Southeast Express Members Bio

The bluegrass band, “Southeast Express” was originally formed in the late 70’s by Mr. LeRoy Gregory of Julian, NC. Unfortunately, Mr. Gregory was injured in a rodeo accident in 1994 and later passed away from those injuries. Today we are proud to carry on the band that he started in honor of LeRoy and the music that he loved!

The group is currently made up of the following members: Jim Boren of Pleasant Garden, NC on dobro, guitar and vocals; Ray Coble of Julian, NC on bass and vocals; Jon Cox of Randleman on mandolin and vocals; Brian Faircloth of High Point on guitar and vocals, and Jeff Wiseman of Reidsville NC on banjo and Vocals.

Our group performs traditional, Gospel and contemporary bluegrass with a little comedy thrown in and an occasional country or rock and roll song for variety. We have recorded 3 projects; “Southeast Express”, “On Track” and an all Gospel project, “Back To The Cross” of which we are very proud!

Some of Jim Boren’s earliest memories are filled with his father, Jim Sr., playing his guitar and singing the songs of the time such as Hank Williams’, Don Gibson’s and, of course the king, Elvis’. His mother, Martha, would join in on the “doghouse” bass occasionally to make it a family affair. Then the Fab Four came across the pond and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Jim, like so many of his generation, was captivated by the look and sound of The Beatles. So much so that Jim and his younger brother, Gray, made cardboard guitars, donned Beatle wigs and performed family shows lip-syncing the latest Beatle’s album. The interest and excitement Jim had for “his music” did not go unnoticed as Jim soon received an electric guitar for Christmas. His Dad then showed him some chords and Jim was on his way to the “rock-and-roll” years. He played in several rock bands up until his mid-twenties. About this time, Jim discovered the “high-lonesome” sound of Bluegrass music, and he was immediately drawn to sound of the dobro. He listened to the greats of resophonic guitar, “Uncle” Josh, “Cousin” Oswald, and Jerry Douglas. He studied the basics from them and then set upon developing his own style. Jim can seamlessly blend rock, country, blues, jazz, and bluegrass styles to create an exciting sound while always staying true to the “roots”. Jim joined Southeast Express around 1995. He has been the worship leader at his church for over 25 years. He is a member of the Praise Team and a wonderful testament to what God can do in one’s life. He has a beautiful wife and a lovely daughter who is also very talented in her own right. A regular “chip-off-the-old-block”! Jim is a real talent and a great asset to Southeast Express and we’re glad to have him.

John Cox grew up in southeast Guilford county and began learning the guitar while in high school, mainly by applying theory he learned in Mr. Sparks’ band classes. After high school he furthered his skills by hanging out with his uncles who had been playing bluegrass together for most of their lives. They were big fans of The Seldom Scene, but Uncle Clarence had some Doc Watson and a few Tony Rice records which had a big influence on his playing. Uncle Larry inspired him to take up the mandolin. He has played with a few local bands over the years including Sweetwater, Never Too Late, and Linda and Company, who played monthly at Brown’s Ole Opry for about five years until it closed -down. He currently plays with Southeast Express on mandolin.

Brian Faircloth has always had a love for music as long as he can remember, from standing around the piano with his mom playing and everybody singing to our dad playing guitar and singing ‘Young Love’ by Sonny James. He started taking piano lessons in early elementary school but wasn’t interested in learning how to read music. Brian could pick up and learn songs by ear much quicker. Around 3rd grade he started with the guitar and fell in love. He took lessons from Kirby Smith for several years all while learning Banjo and dabbling with the mandolin. Then he played festivals while in high school and picked around with a few other groups afterwards. Work, family and life in general seemed to take priority over playing for many years but a few years ago he bought a pedal steel and that seemed to spark some interest in getting back into the groove. Luckily enough Brian was asked to come play with this fine group of fella’s and it sure has brought a lot of joy back into his life.

Jeff Wiseman was born in a little coal town called Oak Hill, West Virginia. His love for music was instilled at an early age by his mother and father. His mother would take her family to every church revival in a 50 mile radius. There, and in his home church, he would come to love the Lord and hear the old hymns and learn the rich harmonies that he would take with him through his life. His father loved old time and bluegrass music. As a boy, Jeff’s dad would take him to the festivals and fiddlers conventions where he would immerse himself in the sights and sounds. Jeff met his wife, Amy, while serving in the USAF. They reside in Reidsville, NC where they enjoyed three wonderful children, Nic, A.J. and Tyler. He started playing with Southeast Express in May 2007.

Barrel Room Concert – Randal Bays with Don Penzien

By

Saturday, March 8th, 2025 –  Randal Bays and Don Penzien perform an intimate Barrel Room Concert at Stonefield Cellars Winery – 7:30-9:30pm  (Door opens at 7:00pm for wine purchases and seating)

We celebrate our own Scotch-Irish heritage this month by bringing you a  real deal, traditional style Irish music concert performed by two master instrumentalists in Fiddle and Guitar.

Tickets are $25 (Reserved Table Seating) or $20 (General Admission Chair seating).

Randal Bays is an American born, Irish style fiddler and guitarist who brings power and passion to the old tradition. He’s devoted many years to learning not just the tunes, but more importantly the feeling of Irish traditional music as handed down by the many great players and music lovers past and present. He renders the music with an intensity not commonly heard in any genre, powered by a deep love of the music, the culture, and a heartfelt wish to share this magnificent tradition with audiences.

“A commanding presence on the fiddle.” – The Irish Times

“His playing has power and passion… simply a joy to listen to.” – Dirty Linen Magazine

“Randal Bays is one of the few Americans to have mastered the complex art of traditional Irish fiddling.” – Gearoid O hAllmhurain (author of “A Pocket History of Irish Traditional Music”)

“Bays is a rare beast, a true master of both fiddle and guitar.”

– Cork Examiner (Ireland)

As a guitarist, he is acclaimed thusly by other Celtic style masters:

Tony McManus – “My first awareness of Randal was the exquisite backing he provided to Martin Hayes landmark debut album- guitar playing so precise, so appropriate that I studied it in great detail. Only later did I get the full measure of Mr Bays’ phenomenal musicality both as a player of guitar as melody instrument and also as an excellent fiddler in command of a huge repertoire of tunes both familiar and not so. As a guitarist Randal brings to bear a deep and grounded understanding of the essence of the tune as well as fabulous technique. Indeed, these work together to produce great music that is both original and idiomatic. This is a serious contribution to making the guitar sing within the tradition we love. Good on ye!”

Daithi Sproule – “Randal’s apparently effortless command of the guitar, profound knowledge of the music, and impeccable taste and flair form, in my opinion, a combination unequalled in the field of Irish/Celtic music

Don Penzien

Don Penzien has long been a top-flight performer of Irish traditional music. He frequently is on the road playing concerts and festivals with Haley Richardson, Gailfean, Brian Conway, Gerry O’Connor, and The Máirtín de Cógáin Project, and he has served as accompanist for numerous other well-known performers (e.g., Seán Gavin, Randal Bays, Máirtín de Cógáin, John Whelan, Tim Britton, John Williams, Pat Broaders, Gabe Donohue, Ben Jaber, Tony DeMarco, Billy McComiskey, Sean Clohessy, Bridget Fitzgerald, Kevin Doyle). Widely recognized for his reserved backing style, Don’s dexterous work on DADGAD-tuned guitar provides solid, driving rhythms to traditional tunes as well as perceptive and sensitive accompaniments to songs and airs. Don is a Michigan native with strong roots in Irish culture and an affinity for Celtic music. He now resides in NC where he works as Professor at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Tickets may be purchased Online up till 3pm day of show (see below), Over the Phone at 336-644-9908, or In Person at the winery during Business Hours.
