Barrel Room Concert – Sam Pacetti – Guitarist, Singer-Songwriter

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert 6/1/19 – Sam Pacetti – Guitarist/Singer-Songwriter

We are pleased to bring back one of our favorite guitar masters and singer-songwriters – Sam Pacetti.  It has been too long since he has graced our barrel room stage!

Sam Pacetti is one who brings it all together. A fingerstyle guitar wizard. A deft songwriter, capable of haunting depth and wry humor in the space of one song. A impassioned and ecstatic vocalist, as well as a mesmerizing live performer, seamlessly melding head-spinning guitar pyrotechnics and raw emotion into one breathtaking package.

Pacetti represents a culmination of the best of the American and British traditions. His 1997 Waterbug debut, Solitary Travel, garnered critical raves. “This guy is very good, indeed,” deadpanned the highly respected (and highly critical) UK magazine Folk Roots. And Dirty Linen, the influential US roots publication, opined, “Although the woods are full of young guitar virtuosos, few have developed the style, technique and artistic wisdom of Sam Pacetti. Solitary travel heralds the arrival of one of the most talented instrumentalists and composers to appear in acoustic music in a month of Sunday’s.”

Sam Pacetti grew up in North Florida, hardly known as a hotbed of either the folk tradition or musical innovation. Influenced by Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, and most profoundly by Gamble Rogers,  Sam carries on the important element of the folk process, the passing of music and oral tradition from teacher to student.

Tradition and innovation neatly balance in Sam Pacetti’s music, the whole infused by a relentless intelligence intent on musical and philosophical synthesis. Martin Simpson, Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell and Merle Travis are touchstones to Pacetti, and while there are strong elements of the American primitive school of guitar wizardry throughout his work, there is a powerful raw emotionality evident as well – an earthy sensuality more reminiscent of a Greg Brown or a red-dirt blues master than of a musical academian.

Word has started to spread about Sam Pacetti. And as with anything truly innovative, it starts at the grassroots. You won’t see Pacetti written up in People or Us. You won’t hear his music on Top-40 radio. No, word is spreading about Sam Pacetti the way true innovation always does – through the grassroots. Through non-commercial radio and “specialty show” play. From tapes and CDs passed from friend to friend. At folk festivals and listening rooms. And, in the tradition stemming from the days of rent-raising parties in the Mississippi delta – and now carried on by music aficionados unable to find music that interest them within the mainstream.

One of the great things about the Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you can hear Sam’s guitar mastery and storytelling lyrics upfront and personal!!!!

Barrel Room Concert – Beppe Gambetta (Guitar Master Series) – 6/15/19

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert – Saturday 6/15/19 – Beppe Gambetta

Concert at 7:30 pm, Door opens at 7:00pm.

We are pleased to bring to the Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room, an internationally acclaimed guitarist, Beppe Gambetta!

Beppe Gambetta is a guitarist, vocalist, researcher and composer born in Genova, Italy who developed a style that brings American and European Roots to speak together with one voice. In his unique approach, Beppe blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies, giving new life to sources from different times, periods and places. In addition, the original music he composes gives contemporary influences to traditional roots music.

Beppe has performed at venues as varied as the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and to performances in all 50 US states and throughout North America, Europe, Australia and South America. While Beppe still lives in his native Genova, he travels to North America at least three times each year. His reputation in the U.S. and Canada is reinforced by his participation in prestigious festivals like the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, Merlefest in North Carolina, the Four Corners Festival in Colorado and Canadian Folk Festivals in Winnipeg and Edmonton, as well as events like the radio shows “All Things Considered” and “E-Town”. Beppe has performed with some great heroes of the folk scene like David Grisman, Gene Parsons, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Darrel Scott, Tony Rice,  and with the band Men Of Steel: an international guitar summit (Dan Crary, Tony McManus and Don Ross) of different guitar schools with complex musical interactions.

After eleven CDs, DVDs, teaching books and collaborations with many other top-flight musicians, Gambetta is increasingly known as one of the true live master innovators of the acoustic guitar.

One of the great things about our Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you can hear Beppe’s mastery down to the most precious singular note!!!!

Door opens at 7:00 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm.

Songwriters Featured:

Paula Dellenback

Paula Dellenback is an award winning singer-songwriter born in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia.  Her style of storytelling through song, brings visuals of the region’s history, love, trials and life. Her second original song, “Jar Gap”, won WPAQ’s Ralph Epperson Award for Excellence.  The Paula Dellenback & Fox River band was soon formed and her musical adventures began. Paula has appeared in numerous festivals and venues including Song of the Mountains, IBMA After Hours Showcase, Reeves Theater, Heartwood, Blackmon Amphitheater, and many more.

Jim Ritchey

Jim Ritchey grew up in Texas and learned his craft as a songwriter and performer in the famous music scenes of Dallas and Austin.  In 1976 Rusty Wier recorded his song “Coast of Colorado” and launched Jim’s career as a professional songwriter.  In the years that have followed, his songs have been recorded and performed by numerous artists, including Kenny Rogers (The Gambler album), BeJae Fleming, Mickey Jones, Kelley Hunt, and Ann Rabson, and played on radio stations around the world. Currently, Jim resides in Greensboro, North Carolina and continues to write carefully crafted songs and teach songwriting and guitar at weekend workshops.

Diane Rodelli

Diane started playing guitar at 12, after consuming Joni Mitchell’s first two albums and being smitten with her songs and open tunings.  At 17, she got exposed to Delta and Chicago Blues styles from friends in Brooklyn, and started singing with The Unknown Maracas’ Blue Bland – a seven piece ensemble that included standup bass, acoustic piano, and blues harmonica for a few years, until university and graduate school took over her life.  She took a long hiatus from music making while raising a family and working, but came back to it in her late 30’s with a vengeance, learning more country blues styles.   For the last 20 years she has been playing – hosting the Open Mic sessions at Hillsborough’s Blue Bayou in the early 00’s, and then co-creating Pagan Hellcats, with Dave Rutter in 2006, a band that prides itself in playing almost exclusively original material in the Triangle and Triad area.

Dave Rutter

Dave grew up the youngest in a musical family in Chicago– his father played the American songbook every evening for hours, and two brothers also played- one jump blues and the other classical.  He started playing harmonica as a child, having been left a chromatic harp from his grandfather, and embraced Rock n’ Roll as a departure from the music he grew up hearing.  He started playing guitar in his 20’s and within a decade created The Attitudes, a new-wave/alternative band in the late 80’s and 90’s that enjoyed some notoriety in the Triangle.  He has been writing and performing his own songs for the last 35 years.  He has been lead singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist and harmonica player for the Pagan Hellcats since 2006.  The Hellcats play regularly in venues across the Triangle.
