Barrel Room Concert – Robin Bullock

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert 5/4/19 – Robin Bullock

We are pleased to bring back one of our favorite internationally acclaimed artists, Robin Bullock!

Hailed as a “Celtic guitar god” by Baltimore City Paper and “one of the best folk instrumentalists in the business” by Sing Out! Magazine, Robin Bullock is one of the preeminent acoustic music masters of our time.

His virtuosity on guitar, cittern and mandolin blends the ancient melodies of the Celtic lands, their vigorous American descendants, and the masterworks of the Baroque and Renaissance eras into one powerful musical vision. The 17th-century harp tunes of legendary Irish bard Turlough O’Carolan, the spirited jigs and reels of rural Ireland, the haunting ballads of the southern Appalachians and the timeless compositions of Bach, Dowland and Francesco da Milano all find a musical common ground in Robin’s music, where lightning-fast fingerwork one moment is perfectly balanced with tender, quiet intimacy the next. A warm, friendly presence onstage, Robin effortlessly creates a magical world for the audience with his multi-instrumental wizardry, taking them on an unforgettable journey into the deep heart’s core and through the music of the spheres.   One of the great things about our Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you can hear Robin’s mastery down to the most precious singular note!!!!

Door opens at 7:00 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm.

COST: Advance tickets are $16, $14 for Wine Club Members, $18 at door. See below for advance ticket option! (Wine Club Member discount limited to 4 per household.)

DRINKS: Wine, Beer, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

FOOD: As there is no food vendor for this concert we recommend eating beforehand. Outside food is allowed in small quantities (think snacks, small plates, or tapas), but please be considerate of other guests- don’t bring smelly or pungent food items. We will also be selling snacks such as cheese, crackers, peanuts, and a wide assortment of locally-made chocolate for dessert during the evening!

EVENT POLICIES: No Pets, No Outside Alcohol, No Smoking (anywhere on our property, including our parking lot!).

*Barrel Room Concert Etiquette Reminder: This concert will be held in our intimate barrel room and is intended to be a listening experience. The audience is expected to be respectful of the artist’s performance and their listening neighbors, so loud talking and cell phone use is discouraged.

Concert tickets are non-refundable.

Barrel Room Concert – Joe Newberry

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert 4/6/19 – JOE NEWBERRY

Joe Newberry is a Missouri native and North Carolina transplant who has played music most of his life. His powerful and innovative banjo playing, as well as his songwriting, guitar skills, fiddling, and singing has delighted audiences around the world.

Joe’s songwriting is characterized by the same clean, elegant style as his banjo playing, and his songs are often recorded by artists in the folk and bluegrass world. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs, won the 2012 IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” award. In 2013, Joe shared co-writing honors with Eric Gibson for the IBMA Song of the Year, “They Called It Music.”

Joe was a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, and was recently featured on the Transatlantic Sessions tour in the United Kingdom with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas.  In addition to performing solo, Joe plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton, sits in the banjo chair with old-time music legends Mike Craver, Bill Hicks, and Jim Watson, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch.

A noted teacher of traditional music and song, Joe has taught at numerous camps and festivals, including Ashokan, Pinewoods Camp, Vocal Week and Old-Time Week at the Augusta Heritage Center, the Australia National Folk Festival, the Blue Ridge Old-Time Music Week, and the Bluff Country Gathering. For many years he served as coordinator of Old-Time Week at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, WV. He also teaches at weekend vocal workshops around the country with singing partner Val Mindel.

Joe grew up in a family full of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a teenager and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers. He came to North Carolina as a young man and quickly became an anchor of the incredible music scene in the state. Still going strong more than 30 years later, he does solo and studio work, and plays and teaches at festivals and workshops in North America and abroad.

Door opens at 7:00 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm.

COST: Advance tickets are $16, $14 for Wine Club Members, $18 at door. See below for advance ticket option! (Wine Club Member discount limited to 4 per household.)
