Barrel Room Concert – Gerry O’Beirne (Guitar Master Series) -10/31/19

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert – Thursday 10/31/19 – Gerry O’Beirne.

Concert is at 7:30 pm, Door opens at 7:00pm.

As part of our ongoing Guitar Master Series, we are pleased to bring to the Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room, all the way from Ireland, Gerry O’Beirne!

Born in Ennis, County Clare, along Ireland’s music-rich west coast, Gerry O’Beirne is a renowned singer, songwriter, record producer and guitarist (6 and 12 string guitar, tiple, and ukulele, slide guitar among others).  He grew up in Ireland and in Ghana in West Africa, and has since lived in England, California, and Mexico. He lives now near Dingle in Co Kerry. His own compositions blend the passion found in traditional music with the freshness of contemporary song.

Gerry’s much loved first solo album Half Moon Bay features The Holy Ground, Half Moon Bay, Western Highway and The Shades Of Gloria which have been sung by Maura O’Connell, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Mary Black and many other great singers. His second album The Bog Bodies And Other Stories: Music For Guitar was named CD of the Month on the American radio show Echoes, and one of its essential albums of the year. “Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful”, a duet album with fiddler Rosie Shipley featured his own songs, settings of poems by Paddy Kavanagh and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill along with traditional tunes from Ireland and Cape Breton.

Gerry has toured the world as a solo artist and with the Sharon Shannon Band, Patrick Street, Midnight Well, Andy M. Stewart, Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, and the Waterboys.  He has performed at the White House, opened for the Grateful Dead, played electric guitar with Marianne Faithfull and thought nothing of playing with a Romanian orchestra and choir in a cemetery in Transylvania at night. He has written music for film and theatre and appeared on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Recently he has been working with New York composer Peter Gordon on a recording of the music of the legendary Arthur Russell, and recorded recently with Peter Gordon and Tim Burgess of the Charlatans.

“Gerry O’Beirne has written some of the best new tunes to come out of Ireland’s Celtic music scene. O’Beirne’s guitar playing is always a thing of wonder and his lyrics have become increasingly poetic and emotionally deep.”                                                                                                 – Dirty Linen about “Half Moon Bay”

“The instrumentals are out of this world. A self taught master of the 6 and 12 string guitar, the playing of O’Beirne is superlative and subtle beyond words.” – The Sunday Times

“His works are simple, elegiac and exquisitely worded pen pictures of life’s experiences.” – Rock ‘N’ Reel

“A masterpiece.” – Folkworld about Half Moon Bay

“He’s a lovely singer, a powerful performer and a master musician.” – Evening Herald

One of the great things about our Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you will be able to hear the intricacies of Gerry’s playing and every lyric in the musical stories he will present!!!!

Barrel Room Concert – Sam Pacetti – Guitarist, Singer-Songwriter

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert 6/1/19 – Sam Pacetti – Guitarist/Singer-Songwriter

We are pleased to bring back one of our favorite guitar masters and singer-songwriters – Sam Pacetti.  It has been too long since he has graced our barrel room stage!

Sam Pacetti is one who brings it all together. A fingerstyle guitar wizard. A deft songwriter, capable of haunting depth and wry humor in the space of one song. A impassioned and ecstatic vocalist, as well as a mesmerizing live performer, seamlessly melding head-spinning guitar pyrotechnics and raw emotion into one breathtaking package.

Pacetti represents a culmination of the best of the American and British traditions. His 1997 Waterbug debut, Solitary Travel, garnered critical raves. “This guy is very good, indeed,” deadpanned the highly respected (and highly critical) UK magazine Folk Roots. And Dirty Linen, the influential US roots publication, opined, “Although the woods are full of young guitar virtuosos, few have developed the style, technique and artistic wisdom of Sam Pacetti. Solitary travel heralds the arrival of one of the most talented instrumentalists and composers to appear in acoustic music in a month of Sunday’s.”

Sam Pacetti grew up in North Florida, hardly known as a hotbed of either the folk tradition or musical innovation. Influenced by Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, and most profoundly by Gamble Rogers,  Sam carries on the important element of the folk process, the passing of music and oral tradition from teacher to student.

Tradition and innovation neatly balance in Sam Pacetti’s music, the whole infused by a relentless intelligence intent on musical and philosophical synthesis. Martin Simpson, Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell and Merle Travis are touchstones to Pacetti, and while there are strong elements of the American primitive school of guitar wizardry throughout his work, there is a powerful raw emotionality evident as well – an earthy sensuality more reminiscent of a Greg Brown or a red-dirt blues master than of a musical academian.

Word has started to spread about Sam Pacetti. And as with anything truly innovative, it starts at the grassroots. You won’t see Pacetti written up in People or Us. You won’t hear his music on Top-40 radio. No, word is spreading about Sam Pacetti the way true innovation always does – through the grassroots. Through non-commercial radio and “specialty show” play. From tapes and CDs passed from friend to friend. At folk festivals and listening rooms. And, in the tradition stemming from the days of rent-raising parties in the Mississippi delta – and now carried on by music aficionados unable to find music that interest them within the mainstream.

One of the great things about the Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you can hear Sam’s guitar mastery and storytelling lyrics upfront and personal!!!!

Door opens at 7:00 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm.

COST: Advance tickets are $16, $14 for Wine Club Members, $18 at door. See below for advance ticket option! (Wine Club Member discount limited to 4 per household.)

DRINKS: Wine, Beer, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

Barrel Room Concert – Beppe Gambetta (Guitar Master Series) – 6/15/19

By

Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room Concert – Saturday 6/15/19 – Beppe Gambetta

Concert at 7:30 pm, Door opens at 7:00pm.

We are pleased to bring to the Stonefield Cellars Barrel Room, an internationally acclaimed guitarist, Beppe Gambetta!

Beppe Gambetta is a guitarist, vocalist, researcher and composer born in Genova, Italy who developed a style that brings American and European Roots to speak together with one voice. In his unique approach, Beppe blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies, giving new life to sources from different times, periods and places. In addition, the original music he composes gives contemporary influences to traditional roots music.

Beppe has performed at venues as varied as the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and to performances in all 50 US states and throughout North America, Europe, Australia and South America. While Beppe still lives in his native Genova, he travels to North America at least three times each year. His reputation in the U.S. and Canada is reinforced by his participation in prestigious festivals like the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, Merlefest in North Carolina, the Four Corners Festival in Colorado and Canadian Folk Festivals in Winnipeg and Edmonton, as well as events like the radio shows “All Things Considered” and “E-Town”. Beppe has performed with some great heroes of the folk scene like David Grisman, Gene Parsons, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Darrel Scott, Tony Rice,  and with the band Men Of Steel: an international guitar summit (Dan Crary, Tony McManus and Don Ross) of different guitar schools with complex musical interactions.

After eleven CDs, DVDs, teaching books and collaborations with many other top-flight musicians, Gambetta is increasingly known as one of the true live master innovators of the acoustic guitar.

One of the great things about our Barrel Room is the intimate setting it provides so that you can hear Beppe’s mastery down to the most precious singular note!!!!

Door opens at 7:00 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm.

COST: Advance tickets are $16, $14 for Wine Club Members, $18 at door. See below for advance ticket option! (Wine Club Member’s please call the winery at 336-644-9908 to purchase discounted tickets! Discount limited to 4 per household.)
